Airsoft Military Training
Military training now includes airsoft guns. Does that mean the military is going soft? Not at all!
ome of the reasons that the Military is using airsoft guns include:
- Low cost
Using airsoft guns for training costs less than training with guns that need expensive ammunition. With lower costs, training can occur more often and with more consistency. Liability is minimized with low energy projectiles and minimal protective clothing and gear are required. - Realistic training
With airsoft guns, training can be done in more places and in more realistic settings. Airsoft guns are replicas of real guns that operate like real guns. Airsoft guns can be shot in a variety of military training environments because of their durability. Shooters can train in their military duty uniforms wearing their military gear and equipment for realistic training. Airsoft guns are very accurate. - Safer
Airsoft guns shoot low energy projectiles so it is safer than paintball, R.A.P (real action paintball), and Simulation. There is low risk of injury from the projectile. It is easy to distinguish from real guns because of the visual indicator (usually a bright orange barrel tip). Live ammunition cannot be chambered in an airsoft gun. Little protective gear is needed.
Airsoft guns provide realism in operations, replicates real guns, accuracy, consistency, and durability for military training use. Airsoft guns are practical because there are low safety costs, are easy to transport to the airsoft military training location, low maintenance, and carry low risk of injury.
The initial costs to use airsoft guns in military training are low. The costs continue to remain low because the ammunition costs are low. The price of an airsoft gun that is suitable for military training is in the same price range as a paintball rifle (paintball handguns are not available). They are almost half the cost of R.A.P. and about a third less than Simulation. Per round cost is much less expensive than paintball ($40-$60 for 2,000 rounds), R.A.P ($100 or more per 2,000 rounds) and Simulation ($1200 and up per 2,000 rounds). The price for 2,000 rounds of air soft ammunition is $10 (ammunition prices in 2009).
The ratio of airsoft guns is 1:1 and the weight of airsoft guns usually matches the weight of a real gun. It is this realism that makes airsoft guns a favorite for military training. Engagement in realistic military operations and maneuvers can be done with airsoft guns. There is increased training efficiency.
There are a few drawbacks for using airsoft guns for military training.
- Batteries may become wet and stop functioning
- Plastic airsoft guns don’t provide the realism needed
- No shell is ejected
Men and women of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, National Guard, and even Special Forces have used air soft guns as part of their training. Recruiters for the military have been known to host air soft gun events. The events are often reenactments of recent historic battles and sometimes include some service men that actually fought in the more current battles.
Airsoft guns aren’t just for civilian enthusiast as they become more popular in military training.
